  • DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING ABOUT US

The Department of Accounting at the E. J. Ourso College of Business strives for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the accounting profession.

About Us Our mission is to produce graduates at all levels that excel in their pursuits, and our accomplishments speak for themselves. The Center for Internal Auditing, housed in the accounting department, is cited as an international leader in U.S.News & World Report, and 16 internal auditing students have earned the international high score on the Certified Internal Auditor's Exam. Over the past few years, teams of LSU accounting students have created a continuous streak by attending the PricewaterhouseCoopers' xAct Competition finals for the fifth straight year, receiving first place twice. A key element for our success as a department is our outstanding team of faculty members. Our faculty members publish articles in top academic and professional journals, and many author textbooks and trade books. Our faculty members are also active participants in the accounting profession.

The accounting department offers three degrees:

    • The B.S. in accounting – a 120 hour program that prepares students for careers in internal auditing, industry, and government.
    • The M.S. in accounting – a 30 hour program that, when added to the B.S. degree, satisfies the requirements to sit for the CPA exam. Students in the M.S. program have the opportunity to select electives in several areas of interest, including internal auditing, auditing, or finance.
    • The Ph.D. in accounting – a capital-market based curriculum with intensive study in economics and finance designed to prepare students for positions in academia.
