How do I apply for an Area of Concentration in Economics?
Empirical Economic Analysis Area of Concentration is available for Economics and International Trade and Finance Majors in the E. J. Ourso College of Business. It will soon be available for B.A. students in Arts & Science. Nine hours is required (ECON 4540, 4630, 4632). See an advisor in the College to apply for the area of concentration.
How do I take an Independent Study class in Economics?
The Economics Department offers an undergraduate independent study class (ECON 3999). To be eligible for independent study, there is a 3.0 GPA or higher requirement. If you meet this requirement, you will need to contact a professor that has taught you previously or specializes in a field of economics in which you are interested. The professor must agree to supervise your work in this class before the department can add you.
How do I take an Internship class in Economics?
ECON 4445 is available for students who have a job that is related to economics already lined up. Your supervisor will have to agree to fill out a report of your work and you will be required to write a 25 page report. Applications for the internship course are available in 2108 Patrick F. Taylor Hall.
May I take a course without completing the prerequisite course?
No, and courses may not be taken concurrently.
What classes can I take at another university that will transfer to LSU?
Bring the catalog from the other University, have it evaluated by Dr. Stahl in 2123 Patrick F. Taylor Hall and come to the Dean's office and get a form signed. All transfer credit is subject to approval by the Office of Admission.
What do I do if I took Econ 2030 instead of ECON 2000?
We do not want business majors to take ECON 2030; however, if you transfer from another college, we will substitute ECON 2030 for ECON 2000. Then you must schedule a 4000 level ECON course to substitute for ECON 2010.
What do I do if I am ill and unable to come to class?
Each instructor has specific requirements for making up work missed because of illness. Please consult your class syllabus for the policy on make-ups and documentation needed to make up missed work due to illness.
Can the application fee of $25 to the graduate program be waived?
No.
When is the deadline for applying the graduate program?
In order to be considered for financial aid in the fall semester, materials should be submitted no later than February 15.
