GENERAL QUESTIONS
How can I see an advisor?
Call 225-578-3211 to schedule an appointment. You MUST have a picture ID when you show up for the appointment.
How do I get added to a class that is full?
Please contact the department that offers the course. For example, if you want to be added to ECON 2000, you would need to see the Department of Economics.
Can I be admitted to the college with a 2.9 gpa?
No. You must have a minimum 3.0 gpa; we do not round up. There is no probation admittance and no waiting list.
What type of degree will I have; how will my diploma read?
You will have a BS in Business Administration. Your major will not be printed on the diploma.
According to my catalog, I need to have the dean's signature on certain forms; may I schedule an appointment with the dean?
In most cases, the advisors have the signature authority of the dean. You must schedule an appointment with your advisor for any issues requiring permission of the dean.
How do I compute my gpa?
The number of hours assigned to a course is multiplied by the numerical value of the grade to determine total quality points. The total quality points are then divided by the total number of hours to determine your gpa. Quality points are assigned as follows: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.
How do Ws compute in my gpa?
Ws do not compute in your gpa.
How do Ps compute in my gpa?
Ps do not compute in your gpa.
What is a quality point deficit?
If a student has a quality point deficit, this means that his or her grade point average is below a 2.0 or C average. Quality points for three-hour courses are assigned as follows: A= +6, B= +3, C=0, D= -3, F= -6. Example: If John has a -12 quality point deficit, to bring his gpa up to a 2.0, John will need to make two As or four Bs or any combination that will earn him 12 points.
What is a business deficit?
The deficit is also calculated for all business courses, because each student must make a 2.0 gpa in their business courses. The deficit system works the same as for the overall quality point deficit.
What are the requirements to enter the E. J. Ourso College of Business?
Students may apply for admission to the E. J. Ourso College of Business after the successful completion of 30 semester hours of coursework, including the pre-business core: ACCT 2001, ECON 2010, ISDS 1100, MATH 1431 and ENGL 1002. Admission is competitive. Those who have completed the aforementioned coursework with at least a 3.0 gpa will automatically be admitted to the college upon receipt of their application.
May I take a course without completing the prerequisite course?
No.
Do I have to make a grade of C in all courses? In my major courses?
You must have a C or better in ENGL 1001, 1002, and 2002 (ENGL 1004, 1005, and 2102 for international students). Accounting majors must have a C or better in their required accounting courses and finance majors must have a C or better in their first two accounting courses.
If my major is business, can I minor in another field of business?
No.
Can I take correspondence courses?
Not if you are currently enrolled in LSU. If you are not currently enrolled, you may take up to 12 hours of correspondence. These courses are limited to six hours of general education courses and six free electives. The college will not accept any business courses by correspondence.
What classes can I take here that will transfer to another university?

May I schedule MGT 3830 before my last semester?
No.
May I schedule 3000 or 4000 level courses if I do not have 60 hours?
See your advisor.
What do I do if I took ECON 2030 instead of ECON 2000?
If you transfer from another college, we will substitute ECON 2030 for ECON 2000, but you must schedule a 4000 level ECON course to substitute for ECON 2010.
