Unreasonable Compensation

The one common denominator of the companies indicted by the SEC for fraud and abuse after the Enron debacle was the fact that the CEOs were paid about 75% more than CEOs in comparable companies. Some comparable university salaries:
Texas A&M
$300,000
UNC, Chapel Hill
$255,625
U. of Florida
$306,000
Auburn Univ.
$227,000

Dr. Emmert is paid about 100% more than the average university CEO, yet US News & World Report ranks LSU in the third tier of universities.

He received an interest free loan, which he used to help purchase a Florida home. Plus he receives other fringe benefits.

  • Demand a forensic audit of the LSU foundation or invite the legislative auditor to audit the foundation (some of the money for chairs and professorships is provided by the state).
  • Demand only reasonable compensation to be paid to Dr. Emmert and other highly paid administrators.
  • Demand an annual faculty evaluation of all administrators.
  • Establish a fraud and abuse hotline.
  • University must disclose whether the Chancellor, Provost, and other high officials have a Code of Ethics. If so, code must be publicly available; if not, explain why.
