Three Louisiana State University alumni were Inducted
into the E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration's
Hall of Distinction Friday, March 20, 1998. The three - Carol
M. Calkins of Dallas, U. J. LeGrange of Houston, and
A. Emmet Stephenson, Jr. of Denver - were honored at
a reception and dinner in the Lod Cook Alumni Center. "This
is the highest honor the college bestows on an alumnus," said
Wendy Osborn Luedtke, Director of Alumni Relations
for the Ourso College.
Following a cocktail reception, featuring harp background music, Dean Thomas
D. Clark, Jr. introduced Calkins and Stephenson and their family members and
the family of LeGrange who was unable to attend.
Following dinner catered by John Folse's White Oak Plantation, each inductee
was officially inducted and presented a walnut book with a plaque inside which
mentions the distinction. Accepting the plaque for LeGrange was his daughter
Deborah LeGrange Jones and two sons Brian and Michael, all of Houston.
Chancellor Bill Jenkins and his wife Peggy were present to offer congratulations,
as well as LSU System Vice President Bill Silvia and his wife Paige and Provost
Dan Fogel and his wife Rachel. Former dean of the Business College Bill Ross
was on hand to congratulate the inductees. Dean Clark also recognized Robert
S. Greer, Sr., G. Lee Griffin and Dr. Bernard F. Sliger, all former inductees.
"This ceremony is a celebration in the life of each family represented by our
inductees, a moment when we honor those extraordinary individuals who have made
significant contributions to business, academia, government and to their community" said
Dean Clark. In addition bronze plaques with pictures of the inductees will be
displayed at the entrance of the College where the plaques of the two previous
years inductees are located in a hall of distinction.
