    INTRODUCTION

LSU has been endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors as the Pilot School to develop educational programs in internal auditing. The LSU Center for Internal Auditing is a multidisciplinary program composed of students from a variety of business and non-business backgrounds. The emphasis is tactical, strategic and operational auditing as a value-added consultative function.

Internal auditing is a relatively new and changing multidisciplinary profession. Internal audit staffs generally include members from all business areas, as well as, engineers and other non-business areas. Internal audit is in essence a control over controls, which serves the organization through operational, compliance, systems and financial evaluations. Internal Auditors serve the organization as internal consultants trained in identifying risk, evaluating risk management, adding value, facilitating change, and solving unstructured business problems.

    ADVANTAGE

LSU currently has the most recognized internal audit program internationally. Students graduating from the program will be part of a small group that can claim a specialization in internal auditing. This specialization significantly increases employment opportunities and career enhancement. Assistance in career development and job placement is the primary objective of this program. Over forty universities have initiated programs similar to or modeled after the LSU Program.

    CAREER PATHS

There are two career paths generally available to internal auditors:

    1. A career specifically in internal audit. Many internal audit Chief Audit Executives are also V.P.'s of Fortune 500 Companies.
    2. Many organizations use the internal audit department as a training ground (2-4 years) and as a stepping-stone to management positions. Internal audit is an excellent entry-level position to gain an overview of an organization's operations. Internal auditing is the job choice of preference for entry-level employment.

There are also three related career paths available within consulting firms:

    1. Consulting
    2. Information Technology
    3. Risk Services

LSUCIA AND THE FLORES MBA PROGRAM

LSU offers the unique opportunity to complete an MBA program while receiving a concentration in internal auditing. Your career opportunities will be significantly enhanced since you can interview with organizations that recruit MBA's as well as the significantly larger group that recruits for internal auditing. Approximately 30% of the Flores MBA's at LSU select internal auditing as their concentration, the majority of which also receive internships through the program.
