PROGRAM SUMMARY

The LSUCIA, considered to be the premier internal audit program in the world, is a unique, dynamic educational program.nIt provides training to graduate and undergraduate students for developing an understanding about the Internal Auditing Profession. The program was the first university-based internal auditing training program and was established in 1985. The LSU Center for Internal Auditing has become a model for similar programs in other schools and countries.

The LSUCIA consists of 3-5 courses with an emphasis in internal auditing. Students must take a minimum of three/four courses to be considered as qualifying for the specialization designation. Several departments have differing course requirements for an internal audit specialization. Students should consult with their department for specifics. The program begins in January and ends in December.

The internal audit program has an optional, yet highly recommended, internship program. Each summer 100 - 150 students work on internal audit staffs in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Washington, Charlotte, Memphis, Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, etc. Some of these internships involve international travel. The advantages of the internship include:

  1. 3 hours credit.

  2. $10-$25 per hour compensation.

  3. Valuable professional experience.

  4. Potential job offer.

  5. Networking opportunities.

  6. Career Development.

  7. Preparation for full-time interviews.

A by-product of the LSUCIA program is preparation for the CIA exam, which is given in both May and November. Many students that have graduated from the program have passed all four parts of the Exam. LSU students have won the International Student High Achievement Award, given to the student who scores the highest on the CIA exam, fifteen times during the last eighteen years.

Graduate students admitted to any LSU Graduate program are eligible to register for the LSUCIA Program. Undergraduate students should have a minimum 3.0 GPA or 3.0 in the last 30 hrs. Practitioners are welcome into either the graduate or undergraduate program.

To register, a student needs to be a regular student at LSU, Baton Rouge. For details, please see the brochure.
