The franchisee must become a successful manager. The franchisee must develop the skills in the functional areas of planning, leadership and motivation, organizing, and controlling. These functions allow franchisees to bring together all the management activities which enhance success and profitability for the business. Managers must also learn to develop a positive and creative environment for staff employees. The manager should stay closely attuned to the wants and desires of all staff members. In addition, managers should develop networks with other professionals to help improve professional and managerial skills. Managers should also wisely use time and manage the time available to them. Additionally, the franchisee is involved in extensive training programs. The franchisor will often provide training programs for the franchisee across three major time periods including: (1) pre-opening, (2) grand opening, and (3) post-opening time period. The franchisee is also responsible for the proper training of their managers and staff members. Training of staff members is often enhanced by the training programs established by the franchisor to help the franchisee.
