FRANCHISING AND THE FRANCHISE LIFE CYCLE

Franchising is an exciting opportunity for you to own and operate a small business using a workable business plan and format which has previously been successfully used in other locations.  Franchising is a joint effort between the franchisor and the franchisee with mutually agreed upon products, services and activities including site selection, fixtures and furnishings, interior layout and decor, external decoration, product and/or service usage, advertising, marketing, selling, product preparation, buying, and training.

Franchising has been a very successful method of doing business for several reasons.  Two primary reasons which have led to the success of franchise operations include:

 (1) a tremendous preparation which the franchisor has undertaken to develop a successful business operation and

(2) the determined drive of the franchisee before opening, during opening, and after opening concerning the proper management and direction of the business.  Probably the most significant difference between starting a franchise business and opening an independent business lies in the extensive training, plans, and preparation provided by the franchisor to the franchisee prior to the opening of an outlet.  The franchisee will be taught how to begin, run, and control all the functions of the business operation.
