You are here: Franchisor Book > Training > Continuous Training Programs Continuous Training Programs Franchisors have learned that it is important to periodically update franchisees on management, product, and marketing skills. Therefore it is important to provide continuous training programs throughout the life of the franchise contract. One of the best opportunities for this continuing training is at the annual or semi-annual meetings between the franchisors and franchisees. Many franchisors hold annual conventions and invite all franchisees to attend three- or four-day conferences. This provides the franchisor with the opportunity to train franchisees in various areas of importance. Many franchise organizations provides on-going training to franchisees and their employees on a periodic basis. The franchisee may request that their managers, assistant managers, or staff specialists return to the headquarters' organization and receive further training in their areas. This training may consist of the basic training which the franchisee originally received coupled with advanced training in human resource management, marketing skills, financial skills, and basic management operations. An additional source of training is provided by field representatives or staff members who visit each franchise unit either on a monthly or quarterly basis. These franchisor field representatives may deliver training programs to the franchisee and their staff members. They can provide excellent counsel and give on-the-spot management and operational suggestions while providing additional audio or video materials for the franchisee and the employees. The on-going training programs are the primary method which franchisors use to initiate new products/services into the franchise system. The franchisor has responsibility to provide continuous training and improvement in operational procedures and in the quality of product or services provided. The field representatives may also learn from the franchisees and their staff new and improved methods of handling different business operations. This contact between the franchisor and franchisee provide the opportunity to interact and help each other. As this interaction increases, the strength of the organization increases and the interdependency between the franchisor and the franchisee is realized.
