SO YOU WANT TO FRANCHISE?

Franchising is a joint opportunity for business success for both the franchisor and franchisee.  Successful franchisors are intimately involved with the development of their franchising program.  They get to know each franchisee individually and they strive to work with each franchisee until the business becomes so big that they are just simply unable to because the size of the expansion.  Successful franchisors know this and bring on additional staff to help work with each and every franchisee.

Franchising is the sharing of a vision.  This vision is one of growth and opportunity.  The vision must be shared by the franchisor with the franchisee and also with the staff of both the franchisor organization and the franchisee organization.  The vision provides the opportunity for growth and success in an established business experience.

There are several services which are provided by successful franchisors.  These services are of utmost importance to the franchisee.  They help distinguish the difference between successful and unsuccessful franchise organizations.

Franchisors are providing franchisees the opportunity to work in a proven and successful business situation.  They provide start-up assistance which includes franchisee training, as well as managerial training prior to the opening of any franchise unit.  This start-up assistance and training assistance will help the franchisee to learn all aspects of the business before actually starting or operating the business.

The franchisor also provides well planned and developed marketing and advertising programs on the local, regional, and national levels.  This marketing program provides continuous added value to the franchising system.

The franchisor will also provide standardized accounting and record keeping systems.  Many franchisees are required to report on a bi-weekly or monthly basis their income as well as certain expenses associated with their business practices.  The franchisor also provides discount prices through bulk purchasing power.  This helps decrease the costs associated with franchise operations.  The franchisor will also provide, in limited cases, financial assistance to help either finance the land, building, equipment, or other essential aspects of the franchise business.  Additionally, the franchisor will provide annual franchisees' conferences and many will establish franchisee advisory councils to help advise the franchisee in the fields of operation and product development.

Finally, franchisors have learned to establish strong customer service standards which help insure the quality, value, cleanliness and service of the business.  People do not like to come back to a dirty or messy business.
