The conference will bring together professional, academics, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, consultants, emergency managers, and transportation planners to discuss evacuation planning for cities and regions across the United States. Conference topics include evacuation modeling, policy, legal issues, animal evacuations and vulnerable populations. LSU SDMI VISITING SCHOLAR WINS NHC AWARD
Xiaoli Lu, a visiting research associate of the LSU Stephenson Disaster Management Institute this past spring semester, has been selected as the winner for the 2009 Hazards and Disaster Student Paper Competition, hosted by the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Natural Hazards Center.

H1N1 Resource Center
On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus. A Phase 6 designation indicates that a global pandemic is underway. SDMI has assembled resources, both general and for specific groups, on H1N1 flu.
