    Horse HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE RESOURCE CENTER

    SDMI has reached out to our national partners and offered to be of assistance in any way they see fit. The American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA and the Salvation Army warmly accepted our offers of support. At the state level SDMI has been working with the Government Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), the Food Bank, and several of the local Rotary clubs to coordinate relief efforts.[MORE]
     



    EVACUATION
    National Evacuation Conference

    SDMI with the Gulf Coast Center for Evacuation & Transportation Resiliency and the University of New Orleans are partnering to present the National Evacuation Conference to be held in New Orleans, LA from February 3-5, 2010. The conference will bring together professional, academics, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, consultants, emergency managers, and transportation planners to discuss evacuation planning for cities and regions across the United States. Special topics of discussion include national evacuation policy development, addressing the challenges faced by special needs populations during disasters, and animal and legal issues during evacuation.     SHELTER
    Louisiana Shelter Task Force

    The Louisiana Shelter Task Force consists of parishes in the North and Central part of the State and is responsible for coordinating the opening of shelters and the flow of evacuees in conjunction with The American Red Cross, Department of Social Services and local parishes.

    SUPPLY CHAIN & LOGISTICS
    Business Emergency Operations Center (B-EOC)

    The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) of Louisiana is establishing an operational Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center (Business-EOC) as an annex to its' current statewide emergency operations center on Independence Boulevard. The Business-EOC will specifically enhance participation by businesses and non-profit organizations in disaster management efforts through the development and deployment of public-private partnerships for the benefit of the State of Louisiana, in a unique collaboration between GOHSEP, Louisiana Economic Development (LED), University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Louisiana State University.

    MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS
    K-5 Preparedness Campaign

    Professors Lisa Lundy and Lance Porter from LSU's Manship School of Mass Communication have teamed up with SDMI and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) this fall to plan a disaster preparedness campaign targeted at children grades K-5 throughout Louisiana. A winning campaign will be chosen for GOHSEP to implement in 2010.

    EDUCATION & TRAINING
    Louisiana Command College

    The Louisiana Command College will be established and maintained by a joint partnership between the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute (SDMI). The mission of the Command College is to enhance the leadership and management skills for all of Louisiana's emergency management and homeland security professionals.
