Bio Sketch:

Don M. Chance, Ph.D., CFA, holds the James C. Flores Endowed Chair of MBA Studies and is Professor of Finance at the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University. He previously held the William H. Wright, Jr. Endowed Chair for Financial Services at LSU, and the First Union Professorship in Financial Risk Management at Virginia Tech.  Prior to his academic career, he worked for a large southeastern bank.  Professor Chance has had numerous articles published in academic and practitioner journals and has authored three books:  An Introduction to Derivatives and Risk Management (8th ed.) co-authored with Robert Brooks, Essays in Derivatives:  Risk Transfer Tools and Topics Made Easy (2nd ed.), and Analysis of Derivatives for the CFA Program.  His recently published research examines stock option repurchase plans, the evolution of futures contracts in U. S. markets, option contracts on movie film revenue, and the evolution of binomial models into continuous-time models, and he also recently published a paper on the likelihood of Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak.  He is often quoted in the media on matters related to derivatives and risk management as well as financial markets and the economy in general.  He is a frequent consultant to companies, organizations, and law firms and has extensive instructional experience in professional training programs.  He is an advisor to IndexIQ, a New York-based provider of strategic index products, and The Governance Fund, a Minnesota-based investment manager.  His current research projects deal with executive stock options, portfolio diversification, and the evaluation of asset allocation strategies, and he also works with social scientists in the study of crises and disasters.  In his spare time he plays guitar and sings in a business school band called Capital Gains.
