WHAT IS ISDS?

ISDS, or Information Systems and Decision Sciences, combines information about business processes with software and computer systems to help an organization achieve its goals. ISDS professionals understand both the technical and non-technical factors vital to an organization's strategic advantage and superior performance. They serve as a bridge between highly technical and management communities within an organization and many are involved in helping implement and tailoring new systems to the company's needs.

LSU'S DEPARTMENT OF ISDS IN THE E. J. OURSO COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

Provides technical and computing skills:

  • Problem-solving, software, hardware systems, and multimedia skills
  • Building and using database management systems and other software tools 
  • Using existing software libraries to carry out computing tasks and create user interfaces
  • Knowledge of security and safety issues
  • Designing, programming, and testing Web sites and applications
  • Personal development and professional skills
  • Written communication, designing and delivering presentations
  • Preparing for a job search; building a portfolio and an impressive resume
  • Project management, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Understanding cultural differences and issues in global collaboration

Scholarships and internships are available to students, and the LSU Honors College provides the opportunity for exceptional students to earn the upper-division honors distinction along with the bachelor's in ISDS. Additionally, students can participate in organizations and activities including:

AITP - The Association of Information Technology Professionals is a professional association comprised of career minded students who seek to expand their potential. AITP seeks to provide avenues for all students to make connections with their colleagues, as well as professionals currently working in the information systems field, all in an effort to become more marketable in rapidly changing, technological careers. AITP has weekly meetings for students to network and learn abou the IS field from guest speakers in leading edge corporations.
