Center for Internal Auditing Impacts the Academic and Corporate World

LSU Highlights
September 12, 2002

LSU is home to a number of nationally ranked programs, including internal auditing that is the top program in the world, with LSU students regularly achieving the highest score worldwide on the Certified Internal Auditor examination.

From universities around the globe to international companies, the LSU Center for Internal Auditing (CIA) is impacting the way the academic and corporate world approach internal auditing.

LSU’s CIA has been the international leader in internal audit education since its inception in 1985, when the Institute of Internal Auditors designated the LSUCIA program as the Internal Audit Pilot School to develop internal audit education. Since then, Endorsed Internal Audit Programs have been established at 43 colleges and universities throughout the world, including France, Jordan, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

The international academic effect of LSU’s Center for Internal Auditing program is evident through teaching and outreach. A visiting professor from Thailand coming to LSU to complete the Internal Auditing Program in order to implement the teaching methods at her university, and the travels of the LSUCIA’s director to a university in South Africa to discuss the center’s programs and develop a partnership, proves the center’s commitment to international education.

Impacting the corporate world is another focus of the center through executive education to internal auditing practitioners and managers throughout the world. Vision University, an international education program established through a joint venture between the LSUCIA and the Institute of Internal Auditors, conducts training twice a year for new chief audit executives of major organizations from around the globe. Providing periodic training for the United Nations internal auditing staff in Geneva creates an additional global impact.

The LSUCIA is dedicated to providing unparalleled international quality education for its students by seeking new ways to deliver academic instruction and bringing real-world best practices to the program.
