St. Augustine Students visit Ourso College

October 30, 2003

The Purple Knights of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans visited LSU and the Ourso College of Business Administration at on October 30, 2003, a day dubbed Purple and Gold Day. During their visit, the students were treated to a tour of the Ourso College's stock trading simulator, the SMART Lab.

Tish O'Connor, finance analyst and assistant director of SMART Lab, guided the students through SMART Lab's stock market software. Students were able to locate a company on the stock market, find the up-to-the-minute price of that company's stock, and perform a mock purchase. Additionally, students were introduced to some basics about stock purchasing, including how performance of a stock is measured and how dividends are paid to shareholders.

After the SMART Lab presentation, the St. Augustine students proceeded to Turead Hall, where Rob Hines, assistant dean in the Ourso College, and other Ourso College faculty and staff previewed the programs the Ourso College offers to its students. The day ended with a tour of the LSU football facilities.
