LSU’s Ourso College of Business Administration Ranks Among US News & World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools

April 2, 2004

After a one year absence, The Flores MBA program at LSU’s Ourso College of Business Administration is ranked #71 in US News & World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools business school rankings for 2005, and is #41 of ranked public universities. America’s Best Graduate Schools also identifies the internal auditing program at the Ourso College as one of the best, recognizing that graduates are recruited nationwide.

“The ranking really reflects how much our program has advanced,” said Robert T. Sumichrast, dean of the Ourso College of Business Administration. “The national audience is taking notice of the work we are doing.”

The Flores MBA program last appeared in America’s Best Graduate Schools in 2003 at #76. Changes in the rankings’ methodology kept the program out of the published 2004 rankings, but significant achievements in the past year have earned the program a higher ranking than before.

“We’re delighted to be ranked,” said David Shields, associate dean of the Ourso College for MBA programs and executive education. “This is external recognition of the progress of our faculty, staff, and students, and an important step on our climb to national prominence as a top 50 public university.”

Some of the factors that influence the rankings include GMAT scores of incoming students, selectivity of the program, and the percentage of students who have jobs upon graduation. The Flores MBA program accepts only 26% of students who apply, making it more selective than some schools ranked in the top 20. Additionally, 62% of Flores MBA students have jobs at graduation, a statistic that rises to 75% by three months past graduation.

The Flores MBA program offers three paths to the MBA: the full-time program, the Executive MBA, and the Professional MBA. In addition, students can enroll in the JD/MBA program, a partnership with the Paul M. Hebert Law School at LSU, and earn an MBA and a Juris Doctor concurrently.
