BATON ROUGE – Wendy Overton, business
manager for LSU Continuing
Education, received the William S. Smith Certificate
of Honor Award from
the Institute of Internal Auditors for exceptional
performance on the
2004 Certified Internal Auditor exam.
In 2003, Overton enrolled in classes in LSU's
E. J. Ourso College of
Business Administration's Center for Internal
Auditing to prepare for
the Certified Internal Auditor exam. She also
plans to sit for the CPA
exam. Overton earned her bachelor's degree from
Ambassador University in
Big Sandy, Texas, and went on to receive an M.B.A.
from Our Lady of the
Lake University in San Antonio.
The William S. Smith Certificate of Honor Award
is one of a series of
Smith Awards awarded by IIA in honor of William
S. Smith, the first
chairman of the board of regents of IIA and a
driving force behind the
development of the Certified Internal Auditor
program. Through the Smith
Awards, IIA recognizes candidates who turn in
the best performances on
the core Certified Internal Auditor exam and
successfully complete the
entire exam in one sitting. Other Smith Awards
include the Gold Medal,
Certificate of Excellence and Student Highest
Achievement Award.
The E. J. Ourso College's Center for Internal
Auditing is an
internationally recognized leader in internal
auditing education. It was
the pilot internal auditing program endorsed
by the IIA.
