William S. Smith Student Highest Achievement Award

Erin Meradith, a masters of accounting student
at LSU's E. J. Ourso
College of Business, received the
William S. Smith
Student Highest Achievement Award from the Institute
of Internal
Auditors for earning the highest score of all
students worldwide on the
2004 Certified Internal Auditor exam. She will
be formally presented
with the award during the IIA's 64th International
Conference in Chicago
in July.
Meradith will complete her master's degree in
accounting at LSU in May
and has accepted a position as a staff internal
auditor with KPMG in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla. She earned a bachelor's degree
in management from LSU
and graduated from the Louisiana School for Math,
Science and the Arts.
Meradith, a native of Ville Platte, La., is the
15th LSU student to
receive the Student Highest Achievement Award
since its inception in 1987.
The William S. Smith Student Highest Achievement
Award is one of a
series of Smith Awards given by IIA in honor of
William S. Smith, the
first chairman of the board of regents of IIA
and a driving force behind
the development of the Certified Internal Auditor
program. Through the
Smith Awards, IIA recognizes candidates who turn
in the best
performances on the core Certified Internal Auditor
exam and
successfully complete the entire exam in one sitting.
Other Smith Awards include the Gold Medal, Certificate
of Excellence and
Certificate of Honor. The E. J. Ourso College's
Center for Internal
Auditing is an internationally recognized leader
in internal auditing
education. It was the pilot internal auditing
program endorsed by the IIA.
