The faculty of the Public Administration Institute at LSU's E. J. Ourso College of Business is the 20th most productive research faculty in the United States according to a recent study published in the Journal of Public Affairs Education. In addition, PAI faculty members Evan Berman and Carole Jurkiewicz ranked second and seventh, respectively, among the most productive individual scholars.
The study, titled "The ASPA Journals: Who is Publishing?" was conducted by Douglas J. Watson of the University of Texas at Dallas, Wendy L. Hassett of Auburn University, and Donna Milam Handley of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It examined 13 leading journals associated with the American Society for Public Administration for the years 1993-2002 to see which universities or other organizations and individual scholars were the most widely published.
The PAI faculty as a whole totaled 29 publications in ASPA journals for the studied time period. Berman, who was an associate professor at the University of Central Florida before joining the E. J. Ourso College, was published 20 times from 1993-2002; Jurkiewicz was published 13 times. The University of Georgia, Syracuse, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill were also among the top 20 most productive faculties.
The PAI at the E. J. Ourso College offers a Master of Public Administration degree which emphasizes the management and financial skills required to successfully lead public agencies, nonprofit and healthcare organizations, and for-profit organizations that routinely interact with government agencies.
