The Securities Markets Analysis Research and Training lab, or SMART
lab, at the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business
is offering students the opportunity to obtain
Bloomberg Certification this fall.
This free, nine-session course teaches students
about Bloomberg functionality.
Bloomberg provides online financial information
and news to customers world-wide. The Bloomberg
certification program is designed primarily to
expose users to Bloomberg's capabilities.
“Bloomberg is used extensively throughout
the investment and corporate community,”
said Tish O’Connor, SMART lab assistant
director.
“The Bloomberg Certification Program gives
business students a wonderful opportunity to learn
how to use Bloomberg and understand its capabilities.
Using Bloomberg is just one way we bring the real
world into the classroom and give our students
the tools they need to succeed.”
The program is comprised of 18 separate modules,
starting with basics and building to advanced
topics such as equity portfolio management strategy
and mergers and acquisitions analysis. Two modules
are covered in each session.
Upon successful completion of all sessions and
required online quizzes, students will earn a
certificate from Bloomberg. The course is offered
to business students and does not count as academic
credit.
Classes are held in the SMART lab from 3:00
pm to 4:30 pm, and will be given on the following
dates:
Tuesday, Sept. 20;
Thursday, Sept. 29;
Thursday, Oct. 13;
Thursday, Oct. 20;
Thursday, Oct. 27;
Thursday, Nov. 3;
Thursday, Nov. 10;
Thursday, Nov. 17; and
Thursday, Dec. 1.
The SMART Lab in the E. J. Ourso College recreates
a simulated interactive trading floor that allows
students the opportunity to gain experience in
the fast-paced world of securities analysis, research
and trading.
The lab’s networked workstations allow
participants to simulate real market conditions,
make and analyze live decisions, and interact
instantly with one another.

course, contact O’Connor at 225/578-0070.
