E. J. Ourso College of Business professors Robert Justis, professor
and department chair of the Rucks Department of
Management, and Ye-Sho Chen, professor in the
Department of Information Systems and Decision
Sciences, visited China from September 23 through
Sept. 26 to make presentations at two Chinese
universities, as well as to meet with franchising
leaders in China.
Justis and Chen made presentations at the business
school of the China University of Political Science
and Law in Beijing where the China Franchise Research
Center is located. The two LSU professors spoke
to an audience of about 100 franchising leaders,
students and faculty. Material from the presentations
will be published in three Chinese business magazines.
A Chinese educational television station will
also air footage from the presentations.
Additionally, Justis and Chen had personal meetings
with Weihua Li, director of the China Franchise
Research Center, and several franchising leaders
from various franchising groups in China. The
various groups include the China Chain and Franchise
Association, the Shenzhen Retail Business Association
and the China Franchise Research Center. The business
school of the China University of Political Science
and Law, in which the China Franchise Research
Center is located, will have a Master program
for franchising beginning next semester.
Justis and Chen made additional presentations
at the China Retail Research Center located in
the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua
University in Beijing. Justis and Chen will initiate
the first step toward working with the scholars
at the China Retail Research Center by writing
and submitting a paper to Chinese Retail Research,
the journal published by the China Retail Research
Center.
Overall, the trip was highly productive for Justis
and Chen, as the two E. J. Ourso College professors
achieved a greater understanding of the current
franchising situation in China and enhanced relationships
between LSU and franchising groups in China. The
information received by Justis and Chen, as well
as the connections made in the trip to China add
significant value to the LSU modern Chinese and
business culture program.
