LSU’S LBTC ANNOUNCES 2007 SCHEDULE FOR RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND BUSINESS RECOVERY PROGRAMS

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center of the E. J. Ourso College of Business has developed a program called “The Business Incubator on Wheels” which conducts training programs and workshops on entrepreneurship in rural communities of Louisiana. In addition, the mobile classroom will be deployed to areas of Louisiana impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita to provide disaster business counseling and management assistance to business impacted by the hurricanes.

The LBTC has listed 30 communities that it will be visiting in 2007. These include:
Arcadia Minden St. Francisville New Roads Eunice
Baldwin Sulphur Oakdale Crowley Abbeville
Cameron Jennings Welsh DeRidder Alexandria
Monroe Bastrop Lake Providence Rayville Chalmette
Bogalusa St. Tammany Plaquemines Parish Orleans Gonzales
Morgan City New Orleans Gretna Kenner Norco

Programs will include seminars and workshops on
• How to start a business?
• How to get funding for your business?
• How to develop an e-commerce business?
• How to write a business plan?
• How to market your business? and
• Many more

The program is sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture – Rural Development, the Louisiana Municipal Association, Louisiana Economic Development, the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority, the LSU Ag Center and the E.J. Ourso College of Business. Capital One Bank has provided funding for a satellite that will allow the unit to be connected to the web and offer distance learning programs to rural Louisiana.

Charles D’Agostino, executive director of the LBTC, stated, “This program allows LSU to take its programs to the underserved areas of Louisiana and the underserved people in Louisiana, giving them access to resources and training that will allow them to start and operate their businesses and to get the resources and assistance that will help them recover from the devastation caused by the 2005 hurricanes.” The program was established in January 2006.
