LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Associate Professor V. Carlos Slawson
Jr. has been named interim chair of the Department of Finance.
“I am honored to serve my department and LSU in this new capacity,” Slawson
said. “Our finance students are top-notch LSU students in high
demand. Our finance faculty members are true colleagues of national caliber,
dedicated to research, teaching, and service. When you add in the achievements
of our finance alumni and the dedication of our community supporters,
I must say that I am blessed to inherit an already solid structure. I
am confident that our success will continue.”
The Latter & Blum Inc. Distinguished Professor in Business Administration,
Slawson has been employed by the university since June 1995, and his
research interests include real estate finance, mortgage modeling and
pricing, and real estate derivative securities. Slawson received both
his MBA and PhD from the University of Georgia. Since 1997 he has served
as associate director of the college’s Real Estate Research Institute.
Slawson received the 2000-2001 Erich Sternberg Foundation Teaching Excellence
Award and, in 2002, was presented the Edward Donald Grant Educator Award
by the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation. He was also named the Commercial
Investment Division Affiliate Member of the Year by the Greater Baton
Rouge Association of REALTORS in 1999 and 2003.
“Professor Slawson is an outstanding member of our faculty” Lane
said. “His leadership in the community, the college and the profession
is without question. The challenges and opportunities the department
will face in the coming years are great, but I have no doubt that under
his direction, the department will continue to prosper.”
In addition to his teaching duties, Slawson is also a member of the
editorial boards of both the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics
and the Journal of Real Estate Literature.
