AUBURN PROFESSOR SPEAKS TO BUSINESS STUDENTS ABOUT CHINESE FINANCIAL SYSTEM

September 24, 2007

Professor James R. Barth, Lowder Eminent Scholar in Finance at Auburn University and senior finance fellow at the Milken Institute, lectured in the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Executive Lecture Series on March 29 and 30, 2007.

Barth’s lecture dealt with the changing financial system within China. China has recently experienced unprecedented growth, and this is something that has countries like the U.S. paying closer attention to its economic growth.

“Throughout the past three decades of fast growth, China has undergone tremendous structural changes in its economy,” Barth said. “There has been significant and continuing industrialization, urbanization and integration into the world economy.”

Barth’s lecture specifically examined China's changing financial system and assessed whether the system can catch up with, or even drive, economic growth.

Further information about Barth’s perception of the changing Chinese financial system can be found in his paper entitled, “China's Changing Financial System: Can It Catch Up With, or Even Drive Growth,” which he co-wrote with Gerard Caprio.
