JAMES FLORES SPEAKS TO HOUSTON-AREA MBA ALUMNI

October 15, 2007

James Flores, chairman, president, and CEO of Plains Exploration and Production Company, spoke to the LSU Flores MBA Alumni Association-Houston Chapter as part of its Executive Speaker Series on Thursday, October 4, 2007.

Plains Exploration hosted the event at the company’s conference center and Flores himself served as the third speaker in the series since it inception last February.
This quarterly event, featuring industry and business leaders, allows LSU Flores MBA alumni living in the Houston area to gain insight into what it takes to achieve success. It also allows them to socialize and network with other LSU Flores MBA graduates from a wide array of industries.

Flores shared many of his present and past business experiences with those in attendance, providing excellent information as to how he became a successful entrepreneur and as to what his future plans entail. To thank him for his participation in the series, and to commemorate the No. 7 ranking in The Wall Street Journal that the Flores MBA Program recently received based on opinions of corporate recruiters who recruit regionally, Flores was presented with official LSU football jerseys for he and his wife, Cherie, that sported the number seven and each of their names.

The next two speakers in the Executive Speaker Series have been named. Appearing early in  2008 will be D. Martin Phillips, a partner with EnCap Investments L.P. Phillips received his M.B.A. and B.S. in general business from LSU in 1977 and 1975, respectively, and was inducted into the  E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction in 2002. Additionally, he attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

Joseph Winkler, chairman and CEO of Complete Production Services, will be the second speaker of 2008. Winkler received his B.S. in accounting from LSU in 1973 and previously served in positions for National Oilwell Varco Inc.
