The Beta Xi Chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, a student marketing organization in LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, co-hosted the Southern Regional Conference with the Pi Sigma Epsilon Chapter of University of Louisiana-Lafayette, October 12 and 13, 2007.
This year’s Southern Regional Conference was attended by eight different chapters and over 65 members from the southern region. Conference activities started with a scavenger hunt that allowed members to socialize. Newly chartered chapters from Baylor University and the University of Alabama were in attendance.
The conference began Saturday with the Pro-Am Competition, a day-long sales competition sponsored by Vector Marketing and Huthwaite. Students learned invaluable skills about the sales profession with a personal coach and video recordings of their sales presentations. Other activities which took place on Saturday included certified chapter officer training, a lunch with PSE corporate partners, the National Speaker’s Competition, and chapter roundtables.
The highlights of the conference weekend were the two speakers during Saturday’s activities, as well as the award’s banquet Saturday night. Kirt Bennett, financial representative from Northwestern Mutual, and Michael Tipton, executive director of Teach for America-South Louisiana, spoke to the group about leadership and development of personal skills within PSE and beyond the organization’s borders. Charmaine Caccioppi, vice president of United Way of New Orleans, was the banquet’s keynote speaker.
“The Southern Regional Conference was full of great speakers, and I believe everyone could take something away from each presentation for their professional or personal development,” stated John Hickey, vice president of Service for the Beta Xi Chapter.
“Everyone in attendance this weekend got the opportunity to meet and learn from others, and camaraderie was created throughout the southern region for the future,” noted Scott Saylor, president of Beta Xi.
