Robert Justis, professor in LSU’s Rucks Department of Management and in the university’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal in a recent article about franchising. The story appeared in the Nov. 8, 2007 issue of the paper and detailed some of the novel commercial concepts being forwarded by enterprising businesspeople around the country.
Specifically, Justis addressed a handful of instructional programs being used by owners to better teach their franchisees about the fundamental aspects of business development. He noted that the addition of basic but essential marketing and finance concepts to standard employee orientation could accelerate the pace of growth tremendously.
“I’m amazed with some of the things they’re coming up with on training,” Justis said. “They’ve moved away from just operations to profitability measurements, productivity and cash flow.”
The piece went on to discuss the issue of selecting locales for business development and delved into some of the upcoming technological advancements that have positively reformatted the franchising environment nationwide.
