PRESS RELEASE
Maggie Hicks

LSU STUDENT TO INTERN FOR LOUISIANA-BASED COMPANY IN CHINA

November 27, 2007

As part of the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Modern Chinese Business & Culture Initiative, students have more opportunities than ever before to venture to the Orient and study overseas. One such student is Maggie Hicks, a junior who will soon be packing her suitcases to spend over 20 hours in the air to reach Beijing.

“As an International Studies: Asia major at Louisiana State University, I have been given the opportunity to study abroad this upcoming spring in Beijing, China at Peking University,” Hicks said. “I have taken three semesters of Mandarin at LSU and will be taking twelve hours of language study and a modern Chinese culture course while abroad.”

Additionally, Hicks has been extended a internship with local ties while she is away.

“I am also very excited to have been granted an internship opportunity with the Louisiana-based home technology company Select Automation in Changsha, China next year,” Hicks said. “My role will be to evaluate industry opportunities in Changsha and to explore synergies between Select Automation and the Chinese market for possible expansion in the future.”

Select Automation founder and LSU alumnus Kerry Brandon is confident that the advantages Hicks has received through her education in Baton Rouge will serve her well.

“Maggie’s involvement in the LSU Modern Chinese Business and Culture Initiative, as well as her familiarity with the Mandarin language, makes her an excellent choice for our internship position in Changsha,” Brandon said.  “We believe that the China Initiative program gives extraordinary students an excellent advantage.”
