LSU’s Board of Supervisors overwhelmingly approved design schematics for the E. J. Ourso College of Business’ new education complex.

ikon.5 Architects’ Principal Joseph Tattoni stated in his presentation to the board that the complex, one that will consist of a four-floor rotunda, two rows of classroom buildings and a large auditorium, will make the E. J. Ourso College a “campus within a campus.”

In total, the complex will provide 153,000-square feet of space and will be built next to the college’s current home of Patrick F. Taylor Hall (formerly CEBA).

Former board chairman Roger Ogden, who is a member of the E. J. Ourso College’s Dean’s Advisory Council, sits on the council’s Louisiana Business Building Oversight Committee. During the meeting, he assured the board that the elements of the campus’ classical look will be incorporated into the architecture and that the complex will not contrast with the traditional Italian look.

“When we look at the ills of Louisiana, they can all be traced back to a failure of education,” Ogden said afterwards. “With the Flagship Agenda, which was introduced when I was the chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, we have embarked on the track to return LSU to the nationally prominent public research university that it was in the 1930s and ‘40s. We can’t have that if we don’t have a first-rate business college.”

Considered the cornerstone project of the Forever LSU campaign, the new business education complex has received backing from the state in the form of $30 million in matching funds.
