The Stephenson Disaster Management Institute, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, will host a spring conference April 6 – 8, 2008.
‘Surviving Future Disasters: Identifying critical challenges and effective strategies for transboundary disaster management’ will be the focus of the conference. Scholars with knowledge of specific future threats and experts on crisis and disaster management will be invited to attend.
The aim of the event is to take a look at the new threats that can affect the world in unforeseen ways and directions.
“It is of critical importance that we explore the dynamics and potential effects of these future disasters,” SMDI Director Arjen Boin said. “Only by understanding how transboundary crises unfold can we begin to map the challenges that accompany them.”
Additionally, according to Boin, the goal of the conference is for participants to wield a transnational perspective and consider how the U.S. and Europe can form a cohesive effort to preserve and enhance societal security.
