LSU’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute has been selected to host Invention to Venture, a day-long workshop backed by the National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators Alliance and the Kauffman Foundation, Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. The event will be held at Boutin’s restaurant, located at 8322 Bluebonnet Blvd., beginning at 8:30 a.m.
This workshop is one of a national series of seminars for those involved in science and technology disciplines and will feature speakers from around the region, including Pat Dickson, Lee Pryor, Joseph Lovett, Arthur Cooper, William Lane, Terry Jones, Tom Anderson, and others.
The national Invention to Venture series has been established to tap the entrepreneurial ambitions of students and faculty on college campuses across the United States. Participants discover how to turn a concept into a new product venture and how to connect with the local people and programs that can help them turn their ideas into reality. The workshop provides an exciting opportunity for participants to learn the basics of “tech entrepreneurship,” build their networks, and develop plans for moving their ideas forward.
“We work on funding and supporting collegiate entrepreneurship across the country,” said Phil Weilerstein, executive director of the National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators Alliance. “We think there’s particular entrepreneurial promise in Louisiana and in the surrounding region. We’re thrilled to be working with LSU’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute to help put together the Invention to Venture event.”
Workshop topics include the following subjects:
• Evaluating ideas
• Legal considerations
• Licensing
• Defining needs and identifying customers
• Financing
• Perfecting business plans
