Tim Barfield, a graduate of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business and former president and chief operating officer of The Shaw Group, has been named Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Labor by Governor Bobby Jindal.
Barfield, who was named to the post in January, earned a bachelor’s in finance in 1986 from LSU and his J.D. Law from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1989.
After practicing as a corporate attorney in the firm Vinson & Elkins from 1990-94, Barfield served as secretary and general counsel for The Shaw Group from 1994-99. He was elevated to managing director of The Shaw Group U.K. and, in 1999, was named president of Shaw APP. He then held the titles of senior vice president for special projects and president of Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure before finally being named president and COO of The Shaw Group.
