PI SIGMA EPSILON TO HOST TOURNAMENT TO AID DESIRE STREET ACADEMY

March 3, 2008

Pi Sigma Epsilon will host a gaming tournament presented by EA Sports on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Best Buy located on Bluebonnet Boulevard. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit Desire Street Academy, a local inner-city school.

Registration will cost $10 per contestant and will begin at 10:00 a.m. the day of the event. The competition itself will start at 11:00 a.m. Contestants will be playing EA Sports NCAA March Madness ’08 in a single elimination tournament on Xbox 360. The event will consist of approximately 60 participants placed in a bracket similar to that used for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. During the event, EA Sports representatives will also be showcasing some of their up and coming games.

Desire Street Academy, a private school for boys established by Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, opened in August 2002 in New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina the academy has relocated to Baton Rouge. The mission of the school is to train students to pursue excellence in academics, athletics and arts, all within a Christian context.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with both Desire Street Academy and EA Sports,” said Brandon Cole, LSU management junior and event project manager. “With the help of the local community, we can make a difference in these boys’ lives.”

Door prizes will be given out throughout the event. Prizes will be given to the tournament winners as well. Sponsors for the tournament include Best Buy, EA Sports, Mr. Gatti’s, CC’s Coffee, Las Palmas and The Mail Bag.

Pi Sigma Epsilon is a national, co-ed business organization specializing in marketing, management and sales. The mission of PSE is to provide the professional, experiential and educational tools necessary to succeed. The members of the Beta Xi Chapter at LSU have executed the complete planning of this project for the benefit of Desire Street Academy.
