Richard Stahl, an instructor and undergraduate advisor in LSU’s
E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Department of Economics, has been selected by the University College as the recipient of the 2007-2008 Advisor of the Year Award.
According to Robert Newman, chair of LSU’s Department of Economics, Stahl is a student’s “best friend” when it comes to advice on matters such as scheduling classes and career choices. Stahl’s abilities, he believes, have even led to an expansion in enrollment.
“Richard (Stahl) embodies all the qualities that the university seeks for faculty members deserving this award,” Newman said. “Further, he is a faculty advisor to two very important student organizations—the Econ/ITF Club and the Students in Free Enterprise. He devotes a tremendous amount of time meeting with our students and advising them on matters related to their degree programs and their careers.”
The award honors individuals who are actively making substantial contributions to the improvement of academic advising. Stahl will be honored at the annual Faculty Awards Reception at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in the Noland LaBorde Room of the Lod Cook Alumni Center.
Employed by LSU since August 2001, Stahl received his Ph.D. from Binghamton University and has taught numerous economics-related courses during his time at LSU. He serves as the faculty advisor for Students in Free Enterprise, a global, nonprofit organization that provides students with the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
