MONK NAMED MPA ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR

April 28, 2008

Gordon Monk, director of the Legislative Fiscal Office, has been named Master of Public Administration Alumnus of the Year by the Public Administration Institute at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business.

During his 28-year tenure with the Legislative Fiscal Office, Monk has served as fiscal analyst, senior fiscal analyst and staff director. He was elected Legislative Fiscal Officer during the 2005 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature.

Monk’s career with the Legislative Fiscal Office began in 1979 as a graduate fellow in LSU’s MPA Program. He graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s in general studies in 1978 and received his master’s in public administration in 1984 from LSU’s Public Administration Institute.

“Gordon Monk is an exemplary graduate of the public administration program,” PAI Director James Richardson said. “He has provided critical leadership in the Legislative Fiscal Office, an office that provides independent information to the State Legislature. He does this job with the highest professional standards. We are very proud to count Gordon as an LSU MPA alumnus.”

Monk’s recognition as the MPA Alumnus of the Year served as the highlight of the tenth annual Public Administration Institute Student Association Day, otherwise known as PAISA Day. This event, observed April 17, 2008, served as recognition by the Louisiana Legislature of the outstanding accomplishments in addressing issues in government, health care, economics, budgeting and statistics achieved by members of PAISA.

To be named MPA Alumnus/Alumna of the Year, an individual must make outstanding contributions to federal, state, or local government or to nonprofit organizations and perform significant public service.

The Publi c Administration Institute at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business offers a 42-hour degree program that emphasizes management and finan cial skills for those leading publi c agen cies, nonprofit and health care organizations and for-profit organizations that intera ct with governmental agen cies. PAI’s fa culty members are student-oriented and nationally-re cognized for their expertise in their fields. For more information, visit www.bus.lsu.edu/pai or call 225-578-6743.
