SEI AND ADVANCE BATON ROUGE EDUCATION INITIATIVE APPROVED

April 30, 2008

The Louisiana Board of Education and Secondary Education has approved a program entitled “Redesigning Lessons, Re-envisioning Principals," a principal alternative certification program developed by LSU’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute in partnership with Advance Baton Rouge.

The alternative certification program is designed to attract principals with strong leadership skills to public and charter schools in East Baton Rouge Parish and other south Louisiana school districts. The quality educators committee of the Louisiana BESE has unanimously approved the program.

Two tracks comprise the programs offerings, one for teachers with three years of classroom experience who will be trained to serve as public school leaders and one for successful professionals in business to be trained to lead charter schools.

May 1, 2008 is the deadline to apply. The first alternative certification summer program will run during June 2 - July 3, 2008. For more information about this initiative, visit www.advancebr.org.

The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, was formed to inspire, innovate, integrate and implement new ways of thinking, education, research and outreach to positively impact students, the regional economy, the state of Louisiana and the nation. Various programs help to address the issues and challenges of entrepreneurship, family business and franchising. A generous donation by LSU alumni Emmet and Toni Stephenson made the continued development of the college’s entrepreneurship institute possible.
