Loubna Bouamane, a research associate at LSU’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, has co-authored a research paper with Meri Thompson, a Ph.D. student in the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Rucks Department of Management, which has been accepted for presentation at the 2008 International Council for Small Business World Conference.
The 2008 ICSB World Conference will take place June 22–25, 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The conference theme is “Advancing Small Business and Entrepreneurship: From Research to Results,” and a key goal of the event is to bridge the gap between research and action. Researchers, educators, policy makers and business service providers from around the globe will be in attendance at the event.
Bouamane and Thompson’s paper focuses on the impact and evolution of affirmative action programs on minority-owned businesses in New-Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina. The paper’s formal title is “Formal Group Membership and Survival Rate Among Minority-Owned Businesses After Hurricane Katrina.”
The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, was formed to inspire, innovate, integrate and implement new ways of thinking, education, research and outreach to positively impact students, the regional economy, the state of Louisiana and the nation. Various programs help to address the issues and challenges of entrepreneurship, family business and franchising. A generous donation by LSU alumni Emmet and Toni Stephenson made the continued development of the college’s entrepreneurship institute possible.
