BATON ROUGE – The LSU Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Interim Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Richard White last Friday. The appointment is effective September 1, 2010.
“We are very excited that Dr. White has accepted this responsibility,” said E. J. Ourso College Dean Eli Jones. “He is responsible for our quality control efforts with regard to curricula across the college. In particular, Dick is our focal point for maintenance of accreditation standards. Dr. Andrea Houston did an incredible job in this capacity, and I have no doubt that Dick will continue the upward trend she initiated.”
White, who has been employed by LSU since August 1998, is the Marjory B. Ourso Center for Excellence in Teaching Professor #7 and teaches in the LSU Public Administration Institute. According to White, it was PAI’s reputation and that of the Master of Public Administration Program that brought him to the university. His teaching and research interests include administrative history, political biography, leadership, governmental ethics and human resource management.
Outside of the E. J. Ourso College, White is an accomplished author, and earlier this week took part in the Huey Long Symposium that was held in Baton Rouge. White sat on the symposium’s Long Legacy Panel. He is the author of Kingfish: The Reign of Huey P. Long, which was published in 2006.
White received the E. J. Ourso College of Business Excellence in Teaching Award for 2000-2001. Additionally, he serves as a member of the university’s Faculty Senate and is a research fellow at Harvard University.
In addition to receiving his B.A. from Old Dominion College, White earned his M.B.A. from Purdue University and his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. He has also held several federal governmental positions at the White House, the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency.
The Public Administration Institute at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business offers a 42-hour degree program that emphasizes management and financial skills for those leading public agencies, nonprofit and healthcare organizations and for-profit organizations that interact with governmental agencies.
