SFA MEMBERS MAKE PRESENTATION TO LSU FOUNDATION

    November 8, 2010

BATON ROUGE - LSU Department of Finance Student Managed Investment Fund class students addressed the Finance Committee of the LSU Foundation Friday, November 5, 2010. LSU Finance majors and LSU Student Finance Association members Michael Bagot, Matthew Follis and Chris Pooler gave the presentation.

After discussing the structure of the class, the students talked about the course workload and the benefits of the class. Additionally, they also presented the semester performance report for the fund, which is available upon request through the Department of Finance.

    G. Lee Griffin, retired chief executive officer of Bank One and a member of the Dean's Advisory Council, publicly praised SMIF Instructor Tish O'Connor and the students during the "Topping Off" Ceremony of the Business Education Complex later in the afternoon.

George Moss, the LSU Foundation’s Chief Investment Officer, said the LSU Foundation is delighted to play an integral role in the college’s Student Managed Investment Fund.

“The program has flourished under Tish O’Connor’s tutelage, and for over five  years now has been providing students a unique opportunity to gain real-world investment management experience,” Moss said.

The event is a regular end-of-semester occurrence where students present to the SMIF Advisory Board. The SMIF class is held in the finance department’s Securities Market Analyst Research and Trading Lab. Funded by LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology, the SMART Lab allows students to gain real-world experience in securities analysis, research and trading. The Lab consists of 44 networked workstations, as well as Bloomberg portals.

The Department of Finance at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business offers high quality programs for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in corporate finance, asset management, real estate, insurance, banking, financial planning and business law. Aiming to create exciting educational opportunities for its students, the department employs tools such as the Securities Markets Analysis Research and Trading (SMART) Lab. This 44-station simulated interactive trading floor enables students to gain practical experience in the fast-paced world of securities analysis, research and trading. Additionally, the Department of Finance encourages, supports and conducts research in real estate by housing the nationally renowned Real Estate Research Institute.
