LBTC WINS STATE AWARDS TO ASSIST SMALL BUSINESSES

    January 5, 2011

BATON ROUGE-The Louisiana Business & Technology Center received an award from both Louisiana’s Office of Community Development-Disaster Recovery Unit and the Committee of 100 Louisiana to provide technical assistance to local businesses impacted by hurricanes.

Charles D’Agostino, executive director of LBTC, is proud of the recent awards.

“The Committee of 100 Award is a partnership whereby the LBTC will receive about $250,000,” D’Agostino said.

“The other is for $234,300. We will begin work on these two contracts in February.”

LBTC is one of 20 nonprofit organizations to be awarded a share of $20 million by the state of Louisiana. This assistance, according to D’Agostino, will provide “low-interest loans and technical assistance to small businesses in areas impacted by hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.”

The Disaster Recovery Unit within the Office of Community Development is dedicated to helping Louisiana's citizens recover from the hurricanes of 2005 and 2008.  As the state's central point for hurricane recovery, the OCD-DRU manages the most extensive rebuilding effort in American history, working closely with local, state and federal partners to ensure that Louisiana recovers safer and stronger than before.

The Committee of 100 for Economic Development, Inc. (C100) is a private non-profit organization whose membership includes the top CEOs of leading private and public companies in Louisiana and University presidents of Louisiana’s institutions of higher learning. The Committee’s primary focus is to assist the State to attract and retain industry, ensuring quality jobs for Louisianans.

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, endeavors to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses. Established in 1988, the LBTC’s highly successful business incubator program has been honored as the National Business Incubator Association’s Incubator of the Year.
