E. J. OURSO COLLEGE ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The E. J. Ourso College at LSU held its spring awards ceremony on May 1, 2006, at the LSU Faculty Club. The spring awards ceremony is designed to recognized Outstanding Student Award winners, scholarship recipients, and inductees into Beta Gamma Sigma.

The college recognized the recipients of the Outstanding Senior, Outstanding Junior, and Outstanding Sophomore Awards, who formally received their awards at the Chancellor’s Honors Convocation in April. Students must have a grade point average of at least 3.95 to qualify for an Outstanding Student Award.

Outstanding Senior Award winner Shannon Talamo is the son of A. J. and Sheila Talamo of Baton Rouge. He is a graduate of Catholic High School and an entrepreneurship management major at LSU. He has also been chosen as a Rucks Fellow and LSU Top 100 student, and has received awards from TOPS, National Merit scholarships, the Louisiana Bankers’ Association, and the LSU Department of Music.

Outstanding Junior Award winner Rebecca Gibbons is the daughter of Timothy and Mary Lee Gibbons of New Orleans. She is a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and a management major at LSU. She is also a student in the LSU Honors College. Gibbons has been awarded LSU Alumni and TOPS scholarships, as well as the Thomas B. Phillips Scholarship, and received the Delta Gamma Lantern of Knowledge award for academic excellence.

Outstanding Sophomore Award winner Chelsea Robertson is the daughter of Jim and Michelle Robertson of Central. She is a graduate of Central High School and a finance major at LSU. She is also a student in the LSU Honors College. Robertson is a Merrill Lynch Scholar and received the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship. In addition, Chelsea received the University-wide LSU Outstanding Sophomore Award for 2006.

Scholarship recipients were presented a scholarship certificate at the spring awards ceremony by the dean. In addition, students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma and were individually recognized and presented a certificate and BGS pin by Andrea Houston, associate dean. Beta Gamma Sigma is the scholastic honor society for graduates of accredited schools of business. Selection for membership represents the highest national honor bestowed by the E. J. Ourso College.
