The E. J.
Ourso College at LSU held its spring awards ceremony
on May 1, 2006, at the LSU Faculty Club. The
spring awards ceremony is designed to recognized
Outstanding Student Award winners, scholarship
recipients, and inductees into Beta Gamma Sigma.
The college recognized the recipients of the
Outstanding Senior, Outstanding Junior, and Outstanding
Sophomore Awards, who formally received their
awards at the Chancellor’s Honors Convocation
in April. Students must have a grade point average
of at least 3.95 to qualify for an Outstanding
Student Award.
Outstanding Senior Award winner Shannon Talamo
is the son of A. J. and Sheila Talamo of Baton
Rouge. He is a graduate of Catholic High School
and an entrepreneurship management major at LSU.
He has also been chosen as a Rucks Fellow and
LSU Top 100 student, and has received awards
from TOPS, National Merit scholarships, the Louisiana
Bankers’ Association, and the LSU Department
of Music.
Outstanding Junior Award winner Rebecca Gibbons
is the daughter of Timothy and Mary Lee Gibbons
of New Orleans. She is a graduate of Mount Carmel
Academy and a management major at LSU. She is
also a student in the LSU Honors College. Gibbons
has been awarded LSU Alumni and TOPS scholarships,
as well as the Thomas B. Phillips Scholarship,
and received the Delta Gamma Lantern of Knowledge
award for academic excellence.
Outstanding Sophomore Award winner Chelsea Robertson
is the daughter of Jim and Michelle Robertson
of Central. She is a graduate of Central High
School and a finance major at LSU. She is also
a student in the LSU Honors College. Robertson
is a Merrill Lynch Scholar and received the Robert
C. Byrd Scholarship. In addition, Chelsea received
the University-wide LSU Outstanding Sophomore
Award for 2006.
Scholarship recipients were presented
a scholarship certificate at the spring awards
ceremony by the dean. In addition, students were
inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma and were individually
recognized and
presented a certificate and BGS pin by Andrea
Houston, associate dean. Beta Gamma Sigma is
the
scholastic honor society for graduates of accredited
schools of business. Selection for membership
represents the highest national honor bestowed
by the E. J. Ourso College.
